The cherry and Adirondack red spruce woods give this guitar a "big guitar" sound and a "brilliant voice."   This guitar is a really great "player."

The dreadnought guitar follows the D-18, D-28 and D-45 measurement scheme.

The dreadnought guitar is the most popular size due to its volume and tonal characteristics.   These were first introduced back in 1916 by Martin.   Today they are considered the standard guitar of bluegrass music, used to produce the signature sound of that genre.

Measurements are:

  • length 20"
  • upper bout 11 1/2"
  • lower bout 15 5/8"
  • waist 10 7/8"
  • thickness 4 3/4" at the heel, 4 1/4" at the neck

Small Jumbo

The Solid Rock Guitar Company small jumbo is a nice and aesthetically pleasing acoustic guitar in appearence and sound.   Our small jumbo style is comprised of a 15 1/2" lower bout, a 11 5/8" upper bout, body length of 19 15/16", a depth of 4 5/8" and the scale is 25.4.   These beautiful, crisp-sounding guitars can be built as a cutaway or standard body style.

NEW for 2013! →   We just finished this standard body style small jumbo for a customer in St. Louis, MO.   The top is made of Lutz Spruce and the back and sides are Cocobolo Rosewood.   The binding is Curly maple and the headstock was impeccably made by our friends at Custom Pearl.   The knobs are Cocobolo Rosewood on Gotoh 910 tuners.   The articulated sound is accomplished through the small jumbo body detail.   All top bracing used is Red Spruce with back bracing Black Walnut to maintain the deep radius built into my instruments.

NEW for 2013! →    This cutaway is built of Black Walnut with an Adirondack Spruce top which was built for a customer in New York.   The sound of these guitars is phenomenal - loud as a drednought but with a beautifully well balanced voice, sure to please even the most demanding performer.   This style with the nice rounded back is one of Solid Rock Guitar Company's best sellers, taking the place of the Martin style OOO and OM Series.

In 2011 we made a nice Mini Jumbo J45 style guitar for a customer.   It is made from Black Cherry/Adirondack, a beautiful wood for an acoustic!   The mini jumbo size is great for musicians looking for that booming bass in a smaller jumbo-sized package.   This tonewood combination delivers excellent volume and clarity.   It features a 1 3/4" nut width using an ebony fretboard with an ebony pryramid bridge.   The fingerboard is inlayed in a diamond and squares figuration.   We had fun building this guitar so call us and we'll build another one - just for you!

This guitar pictured here is a maple jumbo.   It has exceptional, warm, deep tone brought forth by the European spruce top and the curly maple sides and back.   This wood combination, in our opinion, makes a superlative acoustic guitar.   The best wood combination -- one that produces loud projections with nice clarity -- is a toss-up between maple and rosewood.

The jumbo guitar pictured below has been SOLD.

The "jumbo" guitar, introduced by Gibson back in 1942, is a slightly larger body than the dreadnought.   Jumbo guitars gained popularity for use in concerts due to their increased volume.   The jumbo guitar pictured here is very similar to the Gibson J-200 series.   We will be glad to build you one more on the order of the SJ Gibson or Martin series with a 16" lower bout if you prefer.

Approximate easurements are:

  • length 20 1/2"
  • upper bout 12 3/8"
  • lower bout 17"
  • waist 10 1/8"
  • thickness 4 3/4" at the heel, 4 1/4" at the neck

Smaller bodied, but sweet sounding, perfect for finger-picking and playing in small groups or jams.   These guitars utilize a 12 fret slotted neck with a wider fingerboard/neck width, usually 1 13/16" at the nut with a 2 1/4" bridge spacing.   The measurements are similar to a Martin O style guitar.

Measurements are:

  • length 18 1/4"
  • upper bout 9 1/8"
  • lower bout 12 1/4"
  • waist 7 1/8"
  • thickness 4" at the heel, 3 3/8" at the neck

Don't be fooled by the smaller size -- with the right wood selection these sound almost as loud as a dreadnought.

"OOO" (Triple O) 12 Fret

"OOO" (Triple O) 14 Fret

We have started to produce 14-fret triple O guitars and below you can see some of the instruments we have made so far!   The first guitar is made from osage and has an Engleman spruce top.   It has a nice blonde patina to it.

Osage is a very dense wood, in fact it is the densest wood grown in North America.   Osage is a magnificent tone-wood and has excellent projection.   Osage wood is often compared to Brazilian and Honduran rosewoods.
